Short version: we see a small preview and/or a text excerpt of each file for as long as it takes to describe it, then we delete it. We keep only the description.

What we receive

Photos and videos. The CLI, web app and DiskPush plugin shrink each photo to a preview (at most 768 pixels on the long side) before uploading it, and turn each video into a single contact sheet of frames. If a client sends a larger image, the server shrinks it before storing anything. Every preview is re-encoded, which removes EXIF data, including location.

Documents and audio. For PDFs, office documents, e-books, text formats and audio, the CLI extracts a picture of the first page (or the album art) and a text excerpt of up to about 6,000 characters on your machine, when it has the tools installed. When it does not, and always from the web app, the original file is uploaded, converted on our server into the same preview and excerpt, and the original is deleted as soon as the conversion finishes; it is never stored. Camera RAW and other image formats a browser cannot read are handled the same way.

With each file we also receive its name, its path inside the folder you scanned, and facts such as page count, duration, or artist and album tags.

What we keep

Previews and text excerpts are deleted as soon as a file is described, or when it fails for good. We keep the description, tags, folder and file name so you can search and export them, until you delete the scan or your account.

Who else sees it

Standard scans run on GPUs we operate. Premium scans send the preview and excerpt to Anthropic (Claude). Bring-your-own-key scans send them to the provider you connected. Your own provider keys are sealed under a passphrase only you hold (we keep ciphertext and cannot read them) and used only for your scans, while you have your key vault unlocked. Sign-in is by emailed link or passkey. We store your email address and never sell or share it.
